The Truth about Liposuction-Does the Fat Go Elsewhere
Thursday, July 22nd, 2010I have been asked so many times by patients and friends whether the fat you remove from liposuction goes somewhere else on your body. What they mean is, if your thighs get thinner, does your tummy get bigger. So why the confusion.
When you remove fat during liposuction, that fat is thrown away or sent to pathology, but it is GONE. That means that your thighs now have fewer fat cells then they had before. So when you gain weight, there is fewer cells in your thighs to get bigger but you still have all the fat cells in your tummy. So if you gain weight after liposuction, the areas you did not suction will get fatter then the areas you did. So if you always gained weight in your lower half, and then you do liposuction, now if you gain weight your upper half will get bigger in proportion.
Hope this clears things up.
