Cate Blanchet
I read with interest Cate Blanchett’s recent statement in Vanity Fair that her husband Andrew Upton would divorce her if she had plastic surgery. I wonder how good a marriage is if a husband will divorce a wife just because she made a choice to improve anything on her own body. I never would have thought that Cate has to ask her husband’s permission and have his approval to proceed with something that she may want to do for herself. I would think that asking his opinion and taking it under consideration would be more like it, but being afraid of divorce? Cate is lucky that she is pretty and has good genes. However, others may not be so lucky. The shape of their body may be more heavy in the thighs or the breasts may be too large to be comfortable or perhaps one can have too big a nose with a huge hump.If those women listened to Cate they would never do anything to improve themselves for fear of a divorce. I think plastic surgery could be very beneficial to those who have too large thighs, very loose stomach skin, large breast or too large a nose, or a hanging neck. Matter of fact, if plastic surgery can provide a safe improvement of ones “irregularity” and make that person happy why not? Of course I do agree that too much plastic surgery may be deforming, and being obsessed with one’s look is also disturbing but again too much of anything is just too much. I also think that people should investigate well the doctor they are planning to go to as to his/hers credentials so that a great expectation will not turn into a horrible disaster and disappointment. However, I do believe in freedom of choice and I do think that divorce is a very hefty price to pay for improving oneself. My suggestion to Cate is of course to please her husband and not do anything that will improve her look even if she gets older because he will divorce her. I hope however, that many women out there have husbands who will support them should they choose to do something for themselves that will improve the things they dislike but of course if the condition they dislike is reasonable and if they go to see a good and reputable doctor for his/her input.
