A Chemical Peel is a procedure in which the outer layer of skin is gently removed. Along with this outer layer of skin you will also be saying goodbye to all the imperfections which are on that layer of skin. For reasons both aesthetic and functional, women prior to undergoing the procedure have complained of being self-conscience with their sexual partners. It should also be noted that a Labiaplasty is not the same as a Vaginoplasty, which is a procedure that tightens the Vagina to enhance Vaginal stimulation, while Labiaplasty only applies to the Labia. Labiaplasty is almost always an outpatient procedure, done under anesthesia.

“In 2010 I wanted to improve my over-all health but realized that my very large breast implants posed an impediment to this objective. I began research to find a plastic surgeon with experience in implant extraction as well as breast reconstruction. I interviewed several plastic surgeons in the New York City area and finally elected to have Dr. Colen remove my implants.

In March 2010 he removed 1,500 cc Euro-silicone bilateral implants which had been put in 10 years previously by another surgeon. The implants weighed about 3 lbs. Each; They had crushed my ribs inward, and pulled my pectoral muscles off of my sternum (symmastia). I weighed about 119 lbs.

I refused to have appropriately sized replacement implants to help fill in the loose skin following the explantation. I wanted to be all natural (whatever that might mean given my situation).

Post-operatively, even though a lot of skin was removed, the loose skin formed a sort of bib over my chest. There were plenty of wrinkles and folds. I was flat like a pancake. I was depressed. I truly didn’t realize the extent of the post-operative deformity even though I had previously been made aware that this was what I could expect and that a second “adjustment” procedure would be warranted. I decided to have a healthy life-style and just make the best of it.

Dr. Colen was willing to follow for 1 year post-operatively. His office never charged me for these visits. I was impressed with his concern. I continued to keep my resolve not to have implants. I also elected not to undergo other reconstructive surgical solutions which I knew Dr. Colen to be expert in since I had seen some post mastectomy reconstruction photos of his work.

In March 2011 at an office visit Dr. Colen suddenly suggested, maybe you could try the Brava System.” I had no idea what he was talking about but since I had nothing to lose I decided to give it a try.

The system works like a vacuum/suction on the breast to create tissue. It runs on a modem hooked up to two silicone rimmed plastic domes by plastic tubing. Anyone I mentioned it to just laughed, rolled their eyes, said it wouldn’t work, and said I was nuts.

I ordered the starter kit for just under $1,400.00 (April 2011). The wear time protocol, 14 hours per day for 15 weeks was impossible to do but I did manage about 10 hours per day over a 20 week interval (taking off time when I really had no other choice).

The downside of using Brava in terms of inconvenience is undeniable. To say that it is impractical to use is a gross understatement. The system may not work for everyone. Wear time was at night so besides having no social life whatsoever for 5 months, I was sleep deprived for much of that time as well. Finally, what little volume you may gain decreases by about 20% over a 4 week period after you stop using the Brava system completely.

The system did produce some volume and minimized the folds in the skin.

When I saw Dr. Colen on January 18, 2012 he told me to stop Brava completely for 6 weeks to see where everything would settle. Up to this point I had been using the system about once a week since discontinuing daily use just to perk things up.

On February 29, 2012, having been 6 weeks off Brava, I went to Dr. Colen for his opinion regarding what might be done to achieve a more natural look.
